Description

1910 Stony Plain Oppertshauser House Drawing By Aeris Osborne

2022 Alberta Artist-In-Residence Project- 1910 Stony Plain Oppertshauser House Ink pen sketch was my 6th sketch of the series before painting on canvas.

Stony Plain Oppertshauser House Story:

The original Oppershauser House was built in 1902 but was moved from the old settlement site when the town(Stony Plain) moved in 1906 to be near the Canadian Northern Railway. Henry Oppertsahuser Sr. and his family loaded the building materials and all the shop stock onto sleights and moved them with teams of horses. In the new town, they built a small hardware shop. When the business outgrew the small shop they built a larger 2-story shop with a full basement. After the new store on Main Street was built, the old hardware store became what was known as the “Red Onion”. George Opertsahuser (Son of George) and his wife married in Jan 2, 1910, and moved to #1 Oppershauser House in 1910. (Credit:redbrickcommon.com
